Fillings and Repairs

Our Goal

More than nine out of ten adult Americans (92%) have had decay in at least one of their teeth according to data provided by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. Furthermore, one out of four of these individuals (26%) have not sought treatment in an effort to stop the decay from continuing.

Our goal at Oak Hollow Dentistry is to change this, and one way we do this is by offering our Draper, Utah patients easy access to high-quality fillings and repairs.

Types of Dental Fillings

Should you need a filling, there are several options from which to choose, with pros and cons to each.

For instance, some of our patients prefer composite resins because they can be matched to the color of your teeth, giving you a more natural appearance. However, this option isn’t always advisable if the filling is larger in size. Plus, just like your natural teeth, composites can stain over time, and they usually only last a maximum of 10 years.

Another option is a porcelain filling, which is sometimes referred to as an inlay or onlay. Like composite fillings, these too can be matched to your tooth’s natural color. But one benefit of porcelain is that it doesn’t stain as easy. It also typically lasts longer than a composite resin.

There are a few more options to consider, each with its own pros and cons. Not to worry though because our caring and compassionate staff will help you decide which is right for you based on your needs, desired appearance, and, of course, your budget.

Fillings Are for More Than Just Tooth Decay

Although most of our dental patients realize that filling a decayed or decaying tooth can help protect it from any further damage, what some people don’t necessarily know is that fillings are also used to repair teeth that are worn down, broken, cracked, or otherwise in need of repair.

In other words, if you come into our family dental office and learn that you need a filling, it isn’t always a result of a decaying tooth. It could be because you cracked it while eating something hard or broke it due to an accident. Fillings can be used for a number of reasons!
